NINE.
6 cats and 3 dogs to be exact.
All indoor animals. Not kidding. And all spoiled.
I swear I have some crazy connection to animals and their feelings. I understand them. And I love them. I've never lived without one!
Since living away, our house has been empty…quiet. I don't mind it, but I miss animal interaction and have been begging Tyler for a pet. Boy, was he hard to convince.
One rainy day, I figured I'd give my last, "We need a pet and let me tell you why…" Luckily for me, there's this thing in marriage called "compromise," so Tyler came up with an agreement: "if you get a pet, I get…"
It was a dun deal. We shook hands and were off to Petsmart.
I browsed the fish and, although gorgeously pretty, I've never had a fish nor understood how to interact with one. You can't necessarily pet it, hold it, cuddle with it. It can't make noises and breathe oxygen, so that was out.
Lizards and other amphibians…Never.
We saw an adorable, playful 2 year old cat. That was hard for us to turn down considering she was two without a furever home. But we were looking for something more. Something small, easy to maintain, easily transportable, cuddly and you didn't have to take it outside to pee through the rain or snow…or at 2 AM.
Then, we met the cutest little bird. As he was crunching on a seed, he glanced at us with his pretty blue feathers, and we were sold. DONE.
He is the sweetest, most gentle bird. When you talk to him, he tilts his head as if he can comprehend what you are saying. He can eat lots of human food like bananas, pineapple, other fruits and veggies. And he's very good at the, "step up, step down" commands.
I'm in love.
I really never thought I'd be an owner of a bird, but now I'm a bird mama. I really think we found the most perfect pet and can't wait for him to adapt to our home! In the mean time, he is still a little nervous and the Petsmart woman tells us to keep him in his cage for a few days until he is familiar with his surroundings.
...Clearly, he's not in his cage (above). I couldn't resist those beady eyes.

I'll keep my peeps updated on Kiwi, but for now follow my instagram for videos and pictures of him! You won't regret it.
