We're Engaged: The Date

What is the purpose of an anniversary?

It is to honor marriage for each milestone; to celebrate another year together in marriage; to look back at how far you've come and to look ahead at how far you'll go.

These are some of the many reasons why picking a special date to get married makes it so difficult. It has to be perfect!

I googled things to consider when picking your wedding date
  • Consider the time of year (fall is my absolute favorite season)
  • Select a date that holds particular significance
  • Is the date near a family or friends birthday?
  • Is your bridegroom football fans?
  • Is the date easy to remember?
  • Avoid picking dates that will be a problem later
Tyler and I had discussed when we wanted to get married, taking in all of the considerations above.

We were leaning towards October 12, 2013 until one day, Tyler brought me a small, folded piece of paper.

"I think this solves everything," he says. He begins to unfold the paper.  The object in his hand is foreign to me until it is fully exposed and in plain sight.

Never did we think we would be showing this to anyone, but it explains so much!

Let me briefly explain something: Tyler and I were made for each other - simply put.

I can be a lot to handle at times: energetic, dramatic, moody here and there. Tyler is more mellow, simple, patient. I truly don't know how he keeps up with me, but that's a story for another day. We both love a good craft project. We can be extremely cheesy, and we both think nothing makes a better date night than an episode of The Office and some popcorn at home.

So when we first met each other, we just knew. We saw these traits in each other and it was something different for the both of us. We realized how much we balanced each other out.

We started dating in September of 2009, and by mid October 2009, we were hooked for life.  By hooked, I mean we had made a contract (above) stating how we were going to remain committed and get married one day. While it's most certainly cheesy, we had fun making it.

And yes, we burnt the edges. My mom won't let me live this one down.

Up until this point, it has been buried in piles of love letters that we have saved from one another. I don't know what made Tyler feel obligated to find our contract; however, we can't help but think it's fate.

We signed the contract on October 26, 2009. October 26, 2013 is a Saturday and this date could not hold a more perfect significance.

So, folks, save the date.

We can hardly wait to say I Do.
