Healthy Eating

I'm not exactly a healthy eater. I wouldn't say I eat cheetos every day, but it's difficult for me to cut candy out of my diet. Ha. I've gained a little over 5 pounds from Holiday eating. With Christmas behind me and 2014 ahead of me, I'm ready to eat healthier as well as become more active.

Lately I've been hitting the apartment gym, trying to get rid of a jiggly booty (Tyler would disagree about the jiggly booty) but i've never seen my body this way and it's been a huge wake up call that my metabolism is finally slowing down. What a sad realization!! And y'all, i'm so out of shape. I rode a bike for 5 minutes and was already wanting to faint!

Now that I've done my complaining, I'd love to ask you guys for any health tips you may have or what keeps you healthy. I am hitting up the grocery today for easy meal ideas and will be sharing this next week on the blog.

I purchased these peppers (above) at the grocery store. They came washed and in a zipped bag in the produce. SO delicious!

I also read great benefits on honey, so Tyler stuffed my stocking this year with a honeycomb and Tupelo honey from Savannah Bee Company. Splendid!

I guess you could call this a new resolution of mine. I'm not planning on losing weight, but I want to feel healthier, see sunlight more and be able to run for 5 minutes without wanting to die.

Any tips??

  3. I ALWAYS have honey in stock... I eat it with absolutely everything. I'm addicted to chocolate, so I feel your pain, but I've transformed my eating habits and it has been revolutionary! I'd be happy to give you any tips/recipes! Also- if you can do Greek yogurt, try Fage with honey for snacks. I never loved yogurt, but it is absolutely delicious and full of protein! :)

    1. Ok miss thing! You're going to have to tell me what else you eat with honey. I love honey and can eat it with a spoon but lately i've been lost as to what to eat it with!?!?

    2. Oh gosh, honey for everything!

Use honey to replace refined sugars for a healthier day to day sweetener - honey in tea, honey in coffee, honey in baking.
      Honey on toast.
      Honey with oatmeal.
      Honey drizzled over your yogurt.
      Honey on ice cream.
      Etc, etc, etc!

  6. For overall good health and feeling your best, I recommend eating clean, whole foods (the foods God intended for us) so nothing artificial or with preservatives. Unfortunately, this means no sugar unless it's natural sugar like honey (it does have great health benefits!) or raw agave nectar, fruit, dark chocolate, etc. Basically, a diet of lean protein (white meat chicken, fish, turkey, eggs), lots of vegetables, lots of fruit, whole grains, beans, nuts and low or non-fat dairy if any. In addition to a clean, healthy diet (based on eating a variety of good foods that offer you balanced, well-rounded nutrition for fuel, not low calorie counting necessarily) it's important to be active for at least 30 mins- 1 hour every day, even if that's just going for a walk. I try to walk every day and 4 days a week I do a little more activity, like right now I'm doing a 5K training program because I like running. But it could be something more fun so you'll want to do it, like dance classes (think Zumba, Jazzercise), or yoga, pilates, strength training, hiking, biking, playing outside like basketball or tennis. Only eat when you're hungry, stop when you're full, eat for health and fuel (nothing more, nothing less), drink lots of water (I drink about 64oz a day because I take a Nalgene bottle with me every where), limit caffeine and alcohol intake to 8oz each day, and move more often! You'll feel better mentally, physically, and emotionally. You'll sleep better too!

    1. What GREAT advice. I LOVE this. I definitely don't have a problem eating healthy foods nor do I have a problem stopping when I'm hungry. I eat pretty small. It's AFFORDING the whole foods that is expensive (I pay $300/month on groceries and a lot of times we run out of food- it's THAT expensive!!!) My problem is being active. I have been working out for 2 weeks now and feel great. I need to keep it up! It's so easy to get carried away behind the computer and do work all day without remembering to be active. I appreciate your advice and will definitely take all of it into consideration! :) Thanks again!!
