My Neighborhood

I miss my childhood home. Every time I catch myself thinking or talking about it, it's not hard for me to shed a tear. We moved out of it 5 years ago, and i've missed it ever since.

It's almost magical to think about the home I grew up in for 15 years, the friends I made in that neighborhood and what the house smelled like around Christmas time. Tyler and I are currently in the process of finding our first home, but I've always told him that I wish we could make an offer to the people currently living in my old house. I wonder what it would be like to raise my future children in a place I grew up in? To have them sleep in the room I slept in? To set up presents in the same corners of the living room like "Santa" did?

I can't complain, though. My parents moved into a beautiful neighborhood (below) that would be any kids dream. I gotta be honest, most of the houses look like they were torn straight out of Southern Living magazine. There is a lot of pride from the residents that make up this neighborhood, and we're our own little community. We celebrate together, we throw holiday parties, we have a little fourth of july parade every year with golf carts decorated to the nines, and we have Easter sunday service out by the lake. And, although I hate to say it,  if a couple gets divorced (which has happened a few times) they don't move out of the neighborhood. They move down the street, and live in separate homes. That should tell ya somethin'.

Do you like the neighborhood you live in? Any pointers for future newlyweds looking for a home? Would you live in your childhood home?

  1. Those houses are all so beautiful! I grew up in the country and I would totally want my children to grow up there too, I have so many memories of us riding bikes and going exploring all in the confines of our yard. It's pretty special to be able to do something like that.

  2. My parents sold our home about 6 years ago. We had some family drama happen and unfortunately they wanted to start somewhere new. I always dreamed of my kids spending holidays there and having sleepovers at nana and poppys house, but they will get to make different and special memories in my parents new home. Stil, I wish we atill had that home. I had lived there my whole life until I left for college.

  3. What lovely pics! That looks/sounds like the perfect/happiest little place to live!! What a wonderful thought to be able to raise your future children where you were raised :) I am lucky enough that I am still close to where I grew up, and hope that I do not ever have to move away from my lovely town! Happy Monday!!

  7. What beautiful houses! I'd love to make any of those my home. :) When my husband and I decided to buy the house we live in now, one of the big influences was the large pine trees surrounding the property that reminded me of my parent's house. I loved the process of house-hunting... and when you find "the one"... you know, because you get the feeling of "home".

  8. Shut your face! Look how BEAUTIFUL! That is your HOUSE?!? Can I come visit?! ;) you are so blessed, girl.

I can't wait to get my own place with my fiance! A home is years down the road, but when we find an apartment I will try hard to make it feel "home-y" :)

  11. I am so jealous, those houses are seriously so stunning. I love the style of each of them, and the sense of community you talked about. If my childhood home looked like that I would most definitely want to live there! xx

  12. That neighborhood is beautiful! I love where I grew up as well, but don't think I;d ever want to move into an old house or neighborhood. I love the idea of revisting places where you have memories, but love to make new ones somewhere new more! (:

  13. Your neighborhood is completely decked out to the nines! Almost looks a little like the Stepford neighborhood haha. And that's crazy about divorcees just moving down the street. It would make neighborhood get togethers a little awkward. My family has only lived in our current house since I was in 8th grade, but I would love to raise a family in it in the future (although my parents have made it clear that they are not moving anytime soon.)

  14. oh my. these houses are insanely gorgeous!!! i don't blame you for missing it! we bought a newer home, and i was disappointed we couldn't find an older (but redone) home with more charm! i would take any of these houses. dream homes! :) my advice would be don't get hung up on small things that are easy to fix (decor/paint), just make sure the house has good "bones" and that you like the layout. also, the yard is important too!

  18. {GASP} Seriously? People actually live in magazine land, where everything looks picture perfect?! Giiirl, please enjoy your home for me while I struggle with the harsh reality of living way too close to the ghetto. Thanks! =)
    Those homes are absolutely beautiful.
I hope and pray that someday my husband and I can actually live in a purdy home... In the meantime I'm grateful for our cozy apartment.
By the way, I love your baby tree. So cute and pretty!
And to answer your last question, if my childhood home were located in a nicer neighborhood, I would totally live there. Nothing beats living in a place where you've made a ton of sweet memories.

  20. I love your blog. It's so gorgeous—the design, the photos, the content. I would LOVE to live in my childhood home. I remember the way the wood floors felt under my bare feet. I remember the old glass windows in the living room and the way the backyard smelled. These photos feel like childhood. Thanks for the share!

  21. Ah, those leaves! They're beautiful! Us Californians don't get to see those pretty leaf colors very often. I'm envious!

The houses in your neighborhood are gorgeous. I'll take any of the ones with a wrap-around porch! ;D

  22. These photos are gorgeous! And what a quaint and charming area.

My childhood home was a tiny apartment in Brooklyn that rarely got any heat during the winter because the landlord was too cheap. Would I move back if I had the chance? Probably not. But I do have a soft spot for it. I have lots of great memories there.

  23. What a fabulous neighborhood. I drove by my childhood home for the first time in years last Christmas and it was surreal. Nothing looked the same, and I nearly drove right by the place it's changed so much. I don't think I'd want to live there anymore. The neighbors are different, I'm different, it wouldn't be the home I grew up in at all. It's a wonderful thought, but not a possibility for me. Now my Grandparent's home might be another story.
